Why this printer?
I have chosen Xerox for a few reasons:
- relatively cheap for it’s features
- easier and cheaper maintenance in comparison to ink printers - unplug and forget
- drivers available for Linux without much of a hassle
Steps:
Probably steps below may be even easier on other desktop distros like Ubuntu/Fedora.
I’m using here Antergos with KDE DE.
- Install
cups, enable servicecups.socket,cups.service - Install from aur package
xerox-phaser-3020 - Ensure user is member of of lp group
- Navigate to KDE printer menu, add manually:
ipp://<ip>/ipp- choose driver: WorkCentre 3025 (en) - installed, driverless option won’t work
- in settings change paper size to A4
To enable scanning:
- install
sane,airscan-saneand gui (xsane) - enable
saned.socket - scan/confirm if scanner is detected:
sane-find-scanner- USB devicesscanimage -L- network
Troubleshooting:
If scanimage doesn’t detect device over network, check if device is accessible (ping/webUI), then check default system firewall settings.
