Setup Xerox 3025 in Arch-based distros

Why this printer?

I have chosen Xerox for a few reasons:

  • relatively cheap for it’s features
  • easier and cheaper maintenance in comparison to ink printers - unplug and forget
  • drivers available for Linux without much of a hassle

Steps:

Probably steps below may be even easier on other desktop distros like Ubuntu/Fedora.
I’m using here Antergos with KDE DE.

  • Install cups, enable service cups.socket, cups.service
  • Install from aur package xerox-phaser-3020
  • Ensure user is member of of lp group
  • Navigate to KDE printer menu, add manually:
    • ipp://<ip>/ipp
    • choose driver: WorkCentre 3025 (en) - installed, driverless option won’t work
    • in settings change paper size to A4

To enable scanning:

  • install sane, airscan-sane and gui (xsane)
  • enable saned.socket
  • scan/confirm if scanner is detected:
    • sane-find-scanner - USB devices
    • scanimage -L - network

Troubleshooting:
If scanimage doesn’t detect device over network, check if device is accessible (ping/webUI), then check default system firewall settings.
